I hope you enjoyed the rather different week on the blog last week. The mini-series of videos seem to have been really well received by you regular readers and we have had a lot of very positive emails. There’ll be more soon as a result. On to today’s article then…
Yesterday I ran 22 miles in the morning; I felt out of my usual shape having not slept well for a couple nights previously (on Friday I ran my self-hypnosis seminar and left home at 5am and did not get home until 9pm, so my body clock was slightly disrupted), though I was so happy to have the wind in my hair, the sea air in my lungs and the sun shining on my face.
Once indoors, I started my recovery process by taking my protein shake, then later my cherry juice and having showered, stretched diligently, used the foam roller I have and got my compression stockings on, I got my feet up for a short while.
I also did something that I have not done for a very long time indeed… I took an ibuprofen tablet. Shock. Horror! It relaxes the muscles, reduces inflammation and I thought of it as an easy option…
This confession is an interesting one that so many of us would not consider an issue, I am sure.
It represents that notion that is so prevalent in conventional health care – that well-being is just a tablet away.
One of my favourite bands is a group called The Jam who were big in the 70s and early 80s – They sang about ‘The Bitterest Pill’ they had to take. Isn’t it funny what that expression is referring to: That you are having to swallow something that is for your good, yet it tastes bitter and is not palatable. Yet, we find it so very, very easy to take a tablet, don’t we?
I can’t stand that culture of taking a tablet if we have a headache, taking a tablet if we are depressed (I know people who have been taking tablets to feel happy for years and years!), a tablet if we have indigestion, if we have a cold, if we have pretty much anything – there are scam-artists and con-men out there who make a living telling us that they have a miracle tablet that will make you thin! It is not proven to work by any credible authority, yet we cling on to the notion because it might just work for us!
So I was a tiny bit guilty and decided to revisit my own exploration on the subject of hypnotic tablets, because it would be far more effective to get your mind and body in shape with proven methods – though they require more concerted effort than taking a tablet.
Even I think that once in a while taking a rare tablet for pain and inflammation is not a big, big problem, however, what about performance enhancing drugs… Rather than tablets for after an event (when we are sometimes too tired to use self-hypnosis, god forbid!) but that we take before we perform to make us excel!?
With the Olympics coming here in a few months time, there has been talk and discussion of drug cheats and all kinds of other related debate and warnings – it beggars belief really that any athlete would ever use illegal performance enhancing drugs when they are aware of such dire consequences. Yet some consider the gamble worth it and some are caught each year.
So why not use a hypnotic performance enhancer instead?
Piece of research upon piece of research about the Placebo effect have shown how much faith we truly have in tablets – so many pieces of placebo research show some minor change as a result of taking it.

Tablets, Tablets Everywhere and Not a Self-Hypnosis Session in Sight
Todays self-hypnosis process then is going to show you how to create your own legal, performance enhancing drug. This process allows you to create your own hypnotic tablet that you can take and allow your body to respond accordingly. You may be amazed at just how your mind and body respond to taking a hypnotic tablet!
6 Steps To Create Your Own Performance Enhancing Hypnotic Drugs:
Before this session begins… you may want to have a grape, orange segment, sugar lump or any other thing that could take on the role of your hypnotic tablet, or you may simply choose to imagine taking it in your mind later on. Whether you opt for imagining consuming it later, or if you need a bit more reality in your mind, then prepare accordingly at this stage… As you get settled, have a good think about the effect that you’d like your hypnotic tablet to have on you …
Step One: Induce Hypnosis. You can do so by any means you desire or know of. You can use the process in my Science of self-hypnosis book, use the free audio we give away on this website to practice or have a look at the following articles as and when you need them; they are basic processes to help you simply open the door of your mind:

However, with this process, an induction is potentially too much activity, so I teach my clients how to adopt a hypnotic mindset and simply have a mindset that is positive and expectant. Again, to really understand the cognitive set of the hypnotic mindset, go grab a copy of my Science of self-hypnosis book where it is explained in simple but comprehensive terms.
Once you have induced hypnosis, or just adopted the hypnotic mindset, move on to the next step.
Step Two: Get some sort of outcome in your mind. Have a think about the effects you wish your special hypnotic tablet to give you.
To help with this, using your imagination, think about if you had a miracle drug of some kind, then what would it be for? What would it do? What is the effect that you wish? Would it make you last longer, would it make you faster, stronger or endure more discomfort?
Once you have the effect in mind, also think and ask yourself – what would that be like? If it could create that outcome, then have a very good think about what is going to tell you that you have achieved that outcome. What are the signs that are undeniably convincing of the success of your hypnotic tablet?
With those things in mind, move on to step three.
Step Three: Tune into your body. By that I mean, get a real sense for how you are feeling physically throughout this technique, this is important because you want to benefit physiologically and psychologically from this process.
Now is the time to imagine that tablet. Create it in your mind. Imagine that you have it in front of you or actually hold your grape, sugar lump or whatever you may be using if you are going for a real life thing to use with this session – charge it – insert all your hypnotic abilities into it.
By that, I mean, imagine that you are enchanting it with all the desired effects. Maybe you imagine the effects that you have had before and empty them into the tablet. Maybe you imagine it changing in colour as it becomes enchanted. Maybe you imagine it vibrating or pulsing as you add all the specialist elements that you wish.
Imagine the effects pouring out from you and from all nature around you… Filling it with magic, health, well-being, joy and more and more of the things that are going to make this so wonderful for you…
Once you have completed creating it in your mind, ensure you perceive it correctly and move on to the next step.
Step Four: Now, as you look at your completed hypnotic tablet, just think to yourself – ‘I know that is going to work.’ Just trust that it is going to have all the desired effects that you created. Believe in it with conviction.
Secondly, recall a time that you have taken a tablet for a similar type of effect and ask your own mind for an enhanced version of that experience. An experience that is even better.
Connect with your body all the time. Tune in to your own physiology throughout each step of this process. Really allow your body and mind to feel a sense of togetherness with this as you really want your hypnotic tablet to communicate it’s effects physically and mentally. Then move on to the next important step.
Step Five: Take the tablet… Pop your tablet… Gulp it down, swallow it, consume it in whatever way is right for you. Imagine the tablet’s journey. Imagine it dispersing its effects as it enters your body. You may want to spend some time just imagine it spreading through your system for a while.
Imagine connecting with all the cells in your being and that tablet having the desired effect. Maybe you can imagine the tablet spreading a performance enhancing colour throughout your system. Or an energy or vibration or just a renewed sensation of well-being.
Bask in the healing sensations and enjoy the effects spreading and multiplying. Turn the tablet over to your mind – by that I mean, make a request of your mind to truly allow his tablet to have the full desired effect. Feel the difference in your body and start to think about how this is going to feel when you start to do your sport.
Tell your mind what you want to happen and what to expect – really add some suggestion to your hypnotic tablet!
Whenever you feel that you have truly absorbed all that you need to and are ready for the tablet to do it’s own thing from here onwards, then you move on to the final step.
Step Six: Now think about engaging in your sport or that performance and how you are going to react and respond, decide on taking that action as you imagine what is going to happen. Then bring this session to an end.
Open your eyes, wiggle your fingers and toes and go about your day.
Now go and take some action, go and make the most of this tablet and it’s effects upon you. Notice how much it helps you and how it enhances your performance. Maybe consider repeating this session and taking a course of tablets hypnotically that serve to advance your desired outcome.
Your mind will give you so much more with some focus and determination. This technique is a prime example of practice makes perfect – the more you do it, he better the results are. Enjoy enhancing your performance legally.

This hypnotic performance enhancing exercise is something I believe many people will be able to relate to for the reasons you state, namely, our willingness to pop pills for anything. Is this the same exercise you use with your workouts? Do you think you could use it before and/or after a workout with similar results, or is it better to use it before?
Hello Dan, it is one of a number of things I use and utilise for my marathon running performances, yes. I think used in combination with a number of strategies, as part of a system or tailored strategy, you get the most from it.
