I have been to many hypnosis, hypnotherapy, NLP and personal development conferences in my time… I like to think of myself s a geek of my subject and to rub shoulders with other such-likes at these events is something I find enjoyable.

However, never have I heard of any such hypnosis conference being a ‘big thing’ for cities to bid on and convince the body hat their city is worthy of hosting… I mean, this is like the Olympics or he football world cup… Could there be such an event in my professional sphere that I have never heard of in all these years?

It would seem so…

According to this hypnosis article at the online evening news:

SCOTS hypnotists hope to put the rest of Europe under their spell to bring a prestigious conference to Glasgow.

Now excuse me butting in early doors here… But if they do get the event to host, I hope the local media can shed the limiting, boring and highly predicatable stereotype headlines… I mean come on; “Now look deep into my eyes…” is about as incorrect and clichéd as “you are feeling sleepy…” No hypnotherapist or hypnosis professional uses those terms or phrases!

And as for their opening gambit of putting the rest of Europe “under a spell…” Don’t get me started… Ok, on with the article…

This weekend Dr Michael Gow, president of The British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis (Scotland), is trying to convince a leading society to bring its 2011 Congress to the city.

Rival bids to win the European Society of Hypnosis event are being made by Israel and Istanbul, in Turkey.

Winning the conference would boost Scottish business tourism by attracting around 700 top medics, dentists and psychologists to Glasgow for the week-long event.

The ESH, based in Vienna, Austria, consists of 30 national associations with more than 10,000 members.

Dr Gow, whose dental patients include last year’s Miss Scotland Nieve Jennings and a string of celebrities, said: “I’ll be stressing the beauty of Scotland. I’ve had fantastic help from the Glasgow marketing bureau which has put together a great package.

“I’m very hopeful of succeeding especially with the glossy brochure I’m presenting which promotes Glasgow, which after all is a fantastic city.”

Hypnosis is the oldest form of psychotherapeutical help and is currently experiencing a resurgence.

Scientifically proven results demonstrate the effectiveness of hypnosis to address addictions such as smoking and alcohol as well as burnout, depression, anxiety, psychosomatic diseases and pain.

The use of self-hypnosis as a means of relaxation and burn-out prevention is also becoming more important.

Mental training has been applied for a long time in professional sports and supporters believe it could help everyone to use hypnosis in day-to-day life.

The ESH congress allows an international exchange of the latest developments and applications in the field of hypnosis. During the event experts share their knowledge and experience in lectures and workshops with an interested audience.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “We are pleased to support the bid for the 12th Congress of the European Society of Hypnosis in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine in 2011.

“A winning bid would be valuable for the city and would help reinforce Glasgow’s credentials as a premier destination for medical conferences.”

If successful the hypnosis conference would be the latest in a string of lucrative conferences to come to Glasgow, which last month hosted the 12th World Congress On Pain, with its 5000 delegate from 100 countries bringing an estimated £10.9million to the city.

Now that is lovely to hear… A city wanting to bring in a massive bunch of hypnosis people… I hope they behave themselves and give us all a good name… Marvellous to hear of such events... I really need to go and become a member of this organisation or at least hypnotise someone to let me in…
