“If you fall behind, run faster. Never give up, never surrender, and rise up against the odds.” ― Jesse Jackson

We have all found ourselves in a situation where we wanted to quit: be it something you are working on, a goal you set for yourself or a competition you wanted to join or did join. The most likely reason you stopped, is that you may haveencountered hurdles along the way that kept resulting in you desistingwith what you were trying to achieve. Do keep in mind, that a great deal of the time, it isn’t necessarily easy to reach your goals. Then when we do reach them, the satisfaction you get out of it is tremendous – and the journey even if not accomplished is valuable with much to learn from.

Some of the greatest athletes, entrepreneurs and minds are people very fewothers actually know about because at one point they gave up. The process of going from being an under achiever to over achiever can be extremely painful, challenging, and annoying but the final product is priceless.

Here are 7 reasons with you why you should never give up:

1) Nobody’s perfect:

“Never give up. You only get one life. Go for it!”Richard E. Grant

In today’s world there often seems to be a search for perfection. We want everything. We want to manage the big picture and the detail, make sure that practical implementation is completed, make sure we are in that utmost perfect shape for the perfect race, we want to get something done perfectly, and oh yes while you’re at it we also want to be creative, successful, over performing and what not. Unfortunately, this is usually impossible to achieve. At some point down the road we all make some choices, mistakes that don’t make it perfect anymore. But that is fine! The stress that goes combined with trying to be perfect is so intense, that you should ask yourself: is it (the stress) worth it?

2) Success isn’t rewarding if it is easy:

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” ― Dale Carnegie

If you are trying to achieve that ultimate goal, that goal where you worked more than 1 year on, then it should be something special. And knowing that you did everything, or maybe more than everything you could, should give your confidence a boost! The more difficult the goal, the bigger the satisfaction! Don’t be scared about the journey! Every successful person will have their long-fought story ready to share with you. So be that person and share your long-fought journey with those you encounter!

3) Prove others wrong:

“When I was a cyclist, it was sometimes difficult for me to sacrifice things. I gave up school – social life to become a professional cyclists. Those sacrifices, made me the man I am today, and I can look back without any regrets. I can keep my head high and say that I went 100% for it. I wouldn’t change a thing!”Unknown

For sure someone told you once: “You are not able to do this! Just quit!” Well, this is your moment to shine! This should give you a boost to keep on going! Now it is your time to show what you are made of, and that you are able to do things other people thought you weren’t capable of. Prove them wrong by showing them the final result and they will be flabbergasted. This alone should be a tremendous motivation for you to keep on fighting! You don’t want to give doubters the pleasure of seeing you quit or fail, do you?

4) Quitting is the easy option:

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” ― Confucius

When times get difficult, we often take the easy road: we stop. But why? Probably because it is just that easy. By saying no, a lot of pressure will fall from your shoulders. Just by thinking or saying one word, it will all be over with. That is why quitting doesn’t give you any satisfaction, it doesn’t cost you any effort.

5) Once you start quitting, you will set a mental precedent to quit again:

“Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit”. ―Vince Lombardi

Your brain will eventually find out, that once you start quitting it is easier to quit again. Why would you put your wellbeing under pressure, when you just could get rid of it like you already did before? Don’t let your mind get used to the feeling of giving up. Don’t let it become a habit!

6) Quitting lasts forever:

Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” ―Conrad Hilton

People often say this, and it rings true here. Pain is temporary, but quitting lasts forever. Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. If you as a person will never quit when things get tough, you also wouldn’t have to regret anything in the rest of your life, and that is a feeling that is very pleasant to live with.

7) The process shapes you:

Setting difficult goals will stretch you, teach you perseverance and ultimately build your belief in yourself. It is the process that develops you. Greatness doesn’t come overnight, but it is forged by every inch of progress we fight for in pursuit of a worthwhile goal. Even research shows that success has nothing to do with age or early stardom. Researcher suggests that a combination of personality, persistence and pure luck, as well as intelligence that leads to high-impact success— at any age.

We never should ‘just’ give up! Sometimes we might step out of our comfort zone, or we think it is difficult to stay positive in hard times, but we should never just give up on something. The harder you work for it, the bigger the satisfaction will be!
