Thanks Peter, I agree entirely.
I do supplement with B12 and a few other things to help with the demands my current training regimen places upon me, but I didn't really want to give advice on that side of things as I think everyone is individual and it is not really my field of expertise or sphere of professional competence.
I too wish I'd started much younger but I feel pretty sure that I am vegan for life now (with a little bit of flexitarian about me here and there!).
Thank you for writing and sharing, always good to hear from you - best wishes, Adam.

Adam,
Well done for going vegan. I have been vegan for about 10 years and wish I had done it much younger because I seem to have stopped aging (I am now 61). I became vegan primarily for the health benefits and the fact that vegans rarely get cancer. However, the animal welfare benefits and environmental benefits are definite bonuses. I think it is worth noting that going vegan of itself is not necessarily healthy and it needs to be a well balanced diet - chips and baked beans on their own may be vegan but do not constituate a good diet. I supplement with Vit B12 as it appears to be the one nutrient that cannot be gained in sufficient quantities from a vegan diet. I do not feel that is an issue as most people on the standard western diet are deficient in several nutrients.
If anyone is wondering about the wisdom of a vegan diet, they only have to look at the animal world to see that some of the fastest, strongest animals are vegan e.g. gorilla, elephant, buffalo, antelope. That goes for sport too - David Haye and Mo Farrah.
I believe there will come a time when humans will look back at our society and wonder how most people enjoyed eating animal flesh, just as we now look back with horror at activities like bear baiting and cock fighting.
