So James Brown and I, along with the other hypnosis geeks had a ball for our inaugural hypnosis geek dinner at the beginning of this month. A great evening indeed.

We learned a great deal from how we ran it and so are making a couple of changes for our next one.

We have booked a private dining room at a Bournemouth hotel for Wednesday the 30th of March, starting at 7pm. There will be a choice of 3 hot buffets suppers and you can get drinks from the bar. The food will cost £12.50 in total, payable on the night.

This will mean we’ll be able to have a good discussion without having to shout or vie for attention. James and I want the dinners to be events where everyone learns something, so the discussion is key. We’ll have some topics open for discussion and will be presenting ideas, discussing and debating about all things hypnosis.

Additionally, I will be doing a demonstration at the end of the meal. Offering up something that you do not see very often.

Then, anyone who wishes to do so, we’ll head into town again and I’ll be offering a critique and commentary of the work James does hypnotising people in his own unique way.

Because of the size of the venue, we are restricted to a certain number, and because of the need to pre-order the food, we need to assure that everyone who agrees to attend, will definitely do so.

For these reasons, I have given the people who attended the first dinner, the first chance to join us in March, and with just about all of them attending again, we have limited space available for this special occasion.

As I have said previously…. If you are into hypnosis, hypnotherapy, self-hypnosis, modern psychology, the workings of the mind… As well as those of you that like using hypnosis for entertainment (which I do not necessarily advocate) then you may have found a couple of things occur in your life:

1. Those closest to you do not share your enthusiasm for these subjects.

2. Those you come in to contact with the most frequently, do not want to have in depth conversations about these subjects.

3. Outside of courses, seminars and online forums, there are not huge numbers of people to engage with about these subjects.

I am a bit of a hypnosis geek. Some of my close friends are too. I am in the fortunate position that I get to chat about hypnosis and those related subjects often because I teach the subject and I hang out with lots of people who also teach and love the subject.

So we are running something called a ‘Geek Dinner’ where we are inviting anyone interested in the subject of hypnosis to join myself and fellow hypnotists and hypnotherapists to meet up for dinner and get to talk all things hypnosis…

We are going to discuss, debate and argue what we think on the subjects of hypnosis and related topics. We are going to indulge ourselves in our favourite subjects and defend our perspectives whilst remaining mildly flexible to altering our thought processes. We are going to laugh, eat, drink and be merry… And you are invited to come along.

As I said, we have a couple of themes lined up, it’ll get racy but never cross the line… I’ll argue from a healthily sceptical perspective, citing evidence and professional therapeutic stances on the use and application of hypnosis… James will attempt to distract you with his performance skills and magicians philosophy, though neither of us is trying to win anything… There’ll be no prizes, just an opportunity to share and discuss and learn from each other whilst sharing some fun and laughter too.

If you fancy joining in the fun and games, then please do let me know as soon as you can, and I look forward to seeing you there, fellow hypnosis geek.
