Ok, ok… So today’s blog entry is nothing more than a blatant celebration of where I live… Whilst sat on the loo in our newly decorated downstairs toilet with Cath Kidston wallpaper this morning reading the news headlines on my iPhone (Sky News application) – (erm, was that too much information?)… I read the headline that Bournemouth is the best UK holiday spot in the UK… Yay.

Bournemouth Beach Huts

In this article at Sky News, the article says:

“The Dorset town came out top of 66 popular UK getaways in a survey from Virgin Money Travel Insurance aimed at finding the best holiday destinations at home.

Despite the wettest July on record, overseas trips by Britons fell 12% in the year to July and were 16% down in May, June and July compared with last year.

Bournemouth was picked as a hotspot because it scored well on a number of key holiday demands.

These included weather, the cost of a week’s hotel stay, price and availability of restaurants, quality of beaches and the overall cost and number of nearby tourist attractions.

Brighton was another popular pick

Other South Coast towns scored highly with Brighton and Portsmouth in second and third.

Scarborough was fourth and London came fifth.

The capital did less well because it does not have a beach.

At the other end of the spectrum, visitors to Loch Ness were less satisfied, with the area coming bottom in a large part because of bad weather.

Loch Ness was rated the worst partly because of the weather, while Wells in Somerset, the Shetland Islands, Southwold in Suffolk and Portrush in Northern Ireland were also in the bottom five.

“Everyone’s idea of a great holiday is different and the UK has plenty of great places to visit but it’s definitely Bournemouth for the all-round experience,” said Grant Bather of Virgin Money Travel Insurance.

Loch Ness is less of a draw

Mark Smith, director of tourism at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “With our stunning gardens and seven miles of golden sandy beach, Bournemouth has been no stranger to winning awards and we are delighted to have retained the distinction of ‘Best UK Resort’.

“This accolade is great testament to the hard work and effort that everyone puts in to ensure we provide a fantastic experience for tourists.

“Bournemouth is a premier destination; it’s cosmopolitan, vibrant and forward-looking and fully deserves to be recognised as the leading resort in the UK.”

So there you have it, nothing to do with hypnosis or hypnotherapy today, just a celebration of my hometown, well done Bournemouth! 🙂
