20 Module Hypnotherapy Training Diploma: Ten Month Training

Hypnotherapy is a powerful form of psychotherapy which has been developed from many individuals over the years, notably the work of Milton Erickson, Dave Elman, Irving Kirsch, James Braid and far too many others to mention. The unique approach of Erickson greatly influenced Richard Bandler and John Grinder when they were themselves developing NLP and it has since rapidly grown in popularity among professional hypnotherapists.

Today, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy skills, and various other hypnotic interventions are recognised by some as being some of the most effective therapeutic tools available. Most, if not all, are included in this hypnotherapy training diploma course.

I am also aware of the increasing importance of evidence based hypnotherapy and as a member of the Register for Evidence-Based Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, I have added much content to this course that is supported heavily by empirical evidence and research. The course contains a great deal of influence from the field of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy as a result.

The Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma

As well as a Society of NLP Practitioner certification, a Clinical Hypnotherapy Diploma from this school, with this course you also get a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD)

The Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma is a qualification that is verified by the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and NCFE. The award is externally verified by the NCFE which is incredibly important.

With many hypnotherapy training schools you are awarded a qualification by the same organisation that you pay your fees to and there may be bias towards their own students, qualifying people that perhaps are not reaching the correct levels required for developing a worthwhile career. Additionally, these training courses vary in quality, substance and duration.

An externally verified award overcomes these potential problems, ensuring a certain standard of training is provided across different training schools, a definite number of hours is spent on class training and homework, and a measurable standard of learning is evident in all students. The award is a vocational qualification at Level 4 (i.e. NVQ Level 4 equivalent). For these reasons, the award is held in very high esteem in the hypnotherapy community. For those looking for a robust qualification that matches national Vocational Standards, there is simply no other choice.

Open University Credit Transfer Points

The Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma has 45 academic credits from the Open University at Undergraduate level 1 (FHEQ Level 4) which count towards a relevant degree.

Course Accreditation:

Though not the most exciting of subjects, course accreditation is incredibly important. Legally, anyone can set up a hypnotherapy training school and conduct courses of any length and any quality. The level of accreditation you get with this course gives you and your future clients confidence that you have received a sufficient depth of training so that you are a competent, confident and ethical practitioner.

I urge you to rethink if you feel tempted by a short, cheap, unaccredited hypnotherapy course. You need time to develop your skills, experience and depth of knowledge before you practice professionally. This course gives you the time needed to develop the skill set necessary to thrive in this field. This course also meets National Occupation Standards and this may be important to you later if the government bring in statutory regulation of hypnotherapists. Although nothing is currently cast in stone, the best insurance for that happening is to take a quality course that meets national Occupational Standards.

I have written in my blog recently about voluntary self-regulation for meeting the governments criteria for hypnotherapists – a robust qualification is required for hypnotherapists to be able to register with the CNHC which is the only government recognised body.

The NCH:

We are an accredited school with the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). One of the oldest independent, Non-for-profit hypnotherapy organisations in the UK, the NCH is well-respected amongst the hypnotherapy community and provides many member benefits detailed in our course prospectus.

It has a comprehensive code of ethics to protect members of the public, a code that this school and it’s tutors adhere to. The NCH is the only professional body to provide the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) which has been validated by NCFE, a government recognised national awarding body, at National Vocational Qualification Level 4 equivalent.

More hypnotherapists are realising that the HPD is the way forward and future in this field. When you register for this course, you will get free student membership to the NCH and become a member upon qualification.

This Hypnotherapy training Diploma course has also been designed to meet the accreditation criteria for The Hypnotherapy Association (THA) and the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) requirements for Practitioner Hypnotherapy Training in the UK. My training school is a member of the UKCHO (UK Confederation of Hypnotherapy Organisations) alongside all the major associations and schools in the UK.

As a graduate of this school, along with your NCH membership you’ll also be able to be a registered member of THA, and the GHR (General Hypnotherapy Register) to show that you are the qualified hypnosis professional on every level.

What’s more, upon successful completion of this hypnotherapy training diploma, you also receive a full NLP practitioner certification signed by Richard Bandler himself! You’ll be licensed as an NLP practitioner with the Society of NLP.

This diploma is also recognised in Australia by the Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA) and in Canada with the Association of Registered Clinical Hypnotherapists (ARCH) as well as in the US with the NGH — the National Guild of Hypnotists — which is one of the most prestigious organisations of its kind in the world.

Regardless of when you take this training, and regardless of where you live, you’ll be qualified to practice and gain insurance to work in the UK, the US, Canada and Australia… Heck, you might want to move and work overseas at a later date — this diploma qualifies you to be able to!

Many schools teach a stance and approach towards hypnotherapy that their students go on to embody themselves. Often the students do not know any different or any better. Here, you are encourage to think critically, you are encouraged to see both sides of any theory, philosophy and approach – you’ll be shown the flaws of certain approaches as well as evidence for and against many populist approaches. It is vital to have a breadth and depth of knowledge and not just favour the same singular approach as your tutor.

The Curriculum:

This Hypnotherapy training diploma course covers a dedicated training programme of tutor led tuition, taking place over several modules of intensive tuition periods and totalling well over 155 hours of tuition.

This makes it easy for you to attend while also managing your family and career needs.

Each tuition block consists of:

In the UK, in the South of England — 2 days of training, a Saturday and Sunday, each day lasting a minimum of 8 hours (excluding a one hour lunch break). Every month for 10 months. I run this course twice a year in the UK this format.

Once a year, I also run this diploma in an intensive format too. For those unable to make a 10 month commitment at weekends, or travelling from overseas, this option is for you, just grab a prospectus for full details.

Gaps to consolidate learning and complete homework:

A number of weeks are allowed to elapse between each tuition block in order for you to be able to consolidate the learning, undertake relevant, required home study… And to practice and hone your skills.

This hypnotherapy training diploma is designed specifically to train you to be able to competently go into clinical practice as a professional, fully insured, competent hypnotherapist.

The Format:

I believe in getting lots of practice and real life experience as the course progresses. Therefore, the curriculum of the course is divided to cover 50% practical training and 50% theory training which includes:

Developing Rapport:
Understanding the need for rapport and learning a number of ways in which rapport can be established and enhanced overtly and covertly. Also included: NLP-based, pacing, leading, matching and mirroring. Cutting edge hypnosis-inducing body language techniques and understanding.
Communication Enhancement:
In-depth analysis of Non Verbal Communication skills. Learning to understand and appreciate the distinctions in the art of effective communication. Covering tonality, inflection, pace of delivery and speech pattern styles, the hypnotic voice and your own state management.
Inducing Hypnosis:
Covering a number of formal/classical inductions along with a variety of permissive Ericksonian and indirect techniques. Street hypnosis skills, rapid inductions and instant hypnosis techniques to ensure you can hypnotise anyone, anywhere, anyhow! How to emerge from hypnosis—a number of principles for doing so.
Hypnosis Pre-Talk:
What a practitioner needs to run through with a client before entering into hypnosis. How to begin the hypnosis set-up conversationally. How to create the correct expectations and use your hypnotic skills conversationally before the ‘offical’ hypnosis begins.
Hypnotic Therapeutic Intervention:
Covering a wide variety of both direct and indirect therapeutic techniques, evidence based strategies, cognitive behavioural approaches, classic hypnotherapy techniques and much more for use in clinical practice. These include application for helping people stop smoking, reduce weight, let go of phobias, excel in various aspects of life and much more.
Throughout the course I work with you individually too. That means that you get to develop and create a congruent personality and portray the right human aspects that a hyphotherapist should. You get to ensure that you are developing as the course proceeds.
Information Gathering:
It is important that students understand what the hypnotherapist needs to know about his/her client and what the client needs to know about his/her therapy. Also you will be covering the effective use of case notes and record keeping, confidentiality, boundaries, areas of specialism, treatment costs, etc.
How to Deal With Abreaction:
Your training as a clinical practitioner will include understanding what an abreaction is, why it sometimes occurs and how to deal with it. Regression, analytical and psychodynamic and related investigatory techniques: You will learn the process of hypnotic regression and related investigatory techniques for therapeutic and analytical work. You will also be shown the potential problems and flaws with this approach and evidence to suggest reasons it should not be used in therapy. We also look at depth at the issues and evidence regarding memory recall in hypnotherapy and the efficacy of hypnosis to do this.
Theoretical Training:
Your theoretical training with us will include an understanding of the history of hypnosis, hypnotherapy and NLP. It will also include knowing the law and being aware of research, empirical evidence and developments. You’ll also learn about the key philosophical debates inherent within these fields. You will be shown the problems created by and flaws of those that deem hypnosis to be paranormal and associated to psychic fields (which we view with some healthy scepticism here).
Core Skills:
Utilising all of the Core Skills; which include hypnotherapy, NLP and Counselling Skills in a competent manner. You also learn how to plan and structure your therapy sessions in the most effective way.
Contraindications:
Certain conditions necessitate special care when considering the use of hypnotherapy — we’ll cover what they are and what options you have. You’ll learn how to know when not to work with people and who is best not to work with and refer to other qualified professionals.
Written & Oral Assessment:
You will be invited to complete some written work to demonstrate your understanding of various hypnotherapy and NLP techniques along with verbal and practical assessment throughout the course. You will be visually assessed on how you work in a therapeutic environment and you will have to complete various case studies. For each module, you will be required to complete homework that contributes to your graduation and we prepare your portfolio of work for submission to the external assessors in order to receive your full HPD qualification.
Demonstration & Observation:
Throughout the hypnotherapy training course you will be able to demonstrate your skills — along with the other students — in practical exercises. These will be observed by the tutors in order to further help you develop your expanding repertoire of therapeutic tools.

Membership:

Upon commencement of this hypnotherapy training course, you will receive a 12 month student membership to the National Council for Hypnotherapists, the Hypnotherapy Association and the General Hypnotherapy Register. Once qualified with your HPD, you’ll be able to become a licentiate member of the NCH. You will be also be able to apply for licentiate membership of the Hypnotherapy Association — full membership comes following two years as a licentiate. You’ll also be able to apply for full membership of the General Hypnotherapy Register upon completion of the course, one the UK’s largest register of hypnotherapists.

Your Diploma:

Your Hypnotherapy Diploma will be awarded upon successful completion of your classroom training and related Home Study work and a successful approval of your work by the NCFE who will grant you your HPD qualification.

My name is Ruth Saint and I have just completed the 10 month Diploma course (2010/2011) at the Adam Eason School of Therapeutic Hypnosis. I received my first diploma from Adam on our final weekend training session and I am now a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I have another certificate (NLP) on its way from America and I am currently just putting the finishing touches to my HPD ready for submission.

One point that I would like to emphasise here, is that none of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for Adam putting himself out to accommodate me on this course. I was not in a financial position to fund this course in advance and so needed to take out a Career Development Loan to cover the fee; I had looked around at several providers, but knew without any doubt that Adam’s course was the one for me, and that Adam was the person that I wanted to be my tutor. However Adam was not a registered provider and I was told that I could only take out a loan with a registered provider.

Knowing that I didn’t want to train with anyone else, I got in contact with Adam, told him how much I wanted to attend his school in Bournemouth, and explained the situation. Adam immediately went through the process and became a registered provider just to ensure that I could attend the course, the loan was secured shortly after, and the rest is history. I am indebted to Adam for this, as qualifying from Adam’s school is without a doubt a huge, life changing experience for me.

Becoming a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist is for me the biggest achievement to date, having been someone who left school at the age of 15 with no formal exams or qualifications. However do not think for one moment that this course is something you just attend and get awarded a certificate at the end. It is a very demanding course and there is a huge amount of coursework. There hasn’t been one day that I haven’t been pulled out of my comfort zone. Choosing a tutor and training school that will not only give you the highest possible standards of tuition, but also make your personal journey to becoming a hypnotherapist exciting and fun is a daunting prospect. The wrong decision can not only cost you a lot of money, but could ultimately leave you feeling unprepared to make the transition from student to therapist.

I originally obtained a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy over ten years ago at a London-based training college that is generally considered to be one of the most reputable in the country. Having just completed Adam’s 10 month diploma course and thoroughly enjoyed it, it brings me great pleasure to write this review. I just want to say that if you have decided that you would like to embark on a career in hypnotherapy; and you are now at the stage of deciding on the right training school for you…

Search no more, Adam’s course in my mind is the best of the best! From beginning to end you will be hypnotized by the way in which Adam delivers his course material to you. I found Adam to be a very fun and charismatic guy; he will have you in stitches laughing! He is a brilliant teacher, very clear and easy to understand.

For me the whole course has been like a personal journey towards a successful ending. Adam demonstrates many of the techniques so you really get to sample how talented he is as a hypnotherapist.

I have to say that on more than one occasion when Adam did a class demonstration; I noticed some big changes take place in my own confidence and in the rate of my learning… I put down this down to benefiting from being in deep hypnosis myself during his demo.

Adam is very attentive and very observant, he doesn’t miss a trick. He seems to distribute his attention towards each individual at the right time, as a result you really feel like you get a very personalized learning experience.

I might add that this course isn’t a ‘cake walk’… Prepare to ‘work your socks off!’ In terms of homework, you really have to be committed and keep on top of it.

I can honestly say that it is all worth it and, having completed Adam’s course, I do feel competent enough to embark on my career as a hypnotherapist.

I had been interested in Hypnotherapy and NLP for many years, just for interest, I hadn’t thought about Hypnotherapy as a new career. Until that is, I decided to join Adam on his Intensive Course. I had looked around for a course that would allow me to develop my interest, however, I found a lot of courses to be a bit too ‘new age-y’ for my personal tastes, I am very pragmatic and like to be challenged, not cuddled! A friend pointed me in Adam’s direction, and as soon as I saw his website, I knew I had found what I was looking for!

I chose to do the intensive course as it fitted in better with my job as a freelancer, yes it was really tough, two blocks of nine days and an eye watering amount of homework in between! I loved it so much I decided to change my career and become a clinical hypnotherapist. There are many testimonials you can read to tell you how fantastic Adam is as a tutor, how much work you have to do, how and what you will learn, go and look for them, they are not hard to find!

I’d like to tell you what you can expect after you have qualified. Well, from the moment you get that exciting phone call, you are wonderfully equipped to open the doors to your Hypnotherapy practice there and then — I opened my practice the very next day and I can honestly say I have never regretted it. The many hours of reading, research, homework and case studies, along with Adam’s very honest feedback, had given me all the tools I needed to get straight to work, completely confident I will always be giving a gold standard therapeutic service to my clients.

Not only will Adam’s course teach you what you need to know to effectively, confidently and professionally treat clients from day one, he will also teach you how to market your practice. He does know what he is talking about — unlike many trainers, Adam still sees clients, he knows all the pitfalls and the trends and changes in the market and our profession. Adam teaches you how to run your business, just as important as teaching you how to treat your clients. Even more wonderfully, he is always delighted when one of his students thrives as a Hypnotherapist. He’ll help and advise you when you need it. He’ll still be challenging as ever, he’ll expect you to come with up with ideas, he won’t think for you, but he will help you develop your thoughts and guide you if you need it! Of course by then, you’ll be used to thinking hard, being creative and thinking critically.

The work load is massive and to be a very good hypnotherapist, you’ll work just as hard when you finish the course. The learning never stops, that’s what makes it such fun! And when you are not learning and seeing clients, you’ll be marketing your business. It won’t be easy, but I can promise that if you study with Adam, you will be a very confident and knowledgeable hypnotherapist.
