Please Give Me 5 Star Qualities — Thanks

Ok, so it is Friday and I want to have some hypnotic fun…

Yesterday I was catching up my pal Elliott Wald and we were having a think about a few things, he was getting philosophical… And he posed me this very interesting and fun question that I need some help answering…

Elliott said:

A star has five points, so to become a star you must follow five points, I have four below, still seeking what the fifth could be?

Aspiration
Inspiration
Dedication
Perspiration

Perhaps you might ask on your blog and see what suggestions are put forward for the fifth, or maybe someone will have five different points to become a star….

Hmmm… How do you interpret what a star is? What 5 key points do you think you need to have to be a star?

So, to add a little bit of spice to this, I’ll send a gift on (a really good gift!) to the best addition to this thread here in the next 24 hours, how about that? :-)  I know you don’t need to be bribed to contribute now, do you? I thought I’d like to reward your efforts and thoughts today, heck I am feeling like giving!

To be a bit of a smarty pants, I have arranged my five points so that the first letters spell out STTAR — I must check that one in the dictionary… You do not have to do the same, though you might want to explain your five points in more depth.

Skill
Thick skin
Tenacity
Ambition (Or I may have put Ability — I think that was covered by skill)
Real Drive

I am sure you’ll agree, mine are a bit lame… So come on, lets have some Friday fun and creativity, shall we?

    Here’s 5 points for a star :-)

Perspective – to be able to stand back and see a bigger picture
Empathy – to appreciate all other perspectives
Acceptance – to cope with our own limitations
Compassion – to care for and value every single life
Energy – to constantly draw upon for inspiration and passion for life

    Love

    Awareness of opportunities

    Self-Discipline

    CHAOS!

    ok Adam – great blog.

I think the five points of a star, for me, are:

    Direction
    Persistence
    Understanding
    Confidence
    Joy

Direction – I think you have to know where you are headed in order to be a star, you won’t do so well if you are wandering aimlessly and without purpose.

Persistence of course, so that if the path gets a little rough, you keep going. You might change this for determination.

Understanding, because along the journey things, or people, might get in the way of your plans and you need understanding or tolerance so you don’t get frustrated with either them your yourself.

Confidence – in your own ability to get where you are headed

Joy – because you can’t shine bright, like a star, unless joy shines out of you

    Hi Adam

Makes you think long and hard that one, but heres my input:

Tenacity – Hold fast to what you believe to be right and true
    Confidence – Believe in yourself!
    Love – Love is all
Determination – Set your course, navigate well, and go for it!
Honor – Be honest, fair and use integrity in all your dealings

    All the best

    Dan

  10. Mary Potter

Your star is your dream, so

Determination – you see it, you dream it , you do it
Resources – emotional, mental, physical, self and others
Energy – passion to fuel the fire
Action – constantly taking steps and learning
Motivation – underlying all the rest

  11. Andrew Cameron

Hi Adam, Long time admirer, first time poster…
This really made me think… and I’m not quite clever enough to make mine into a word… (Well they can be rearranged to spell Paced, but it throws my order out!)

Passion – do what you love, love what you do
Direction – without it effort is misdirected
Commitment – to take action and see something through
Empathy – how you effect and interact with others
Acceptance – of yourself, others and the unchangeable

Three possibles for Elliots missing “ion” – Direction, Innovation, Compassion. Each has something that would round off the set nicely…
    keep up the good work!

Ok, going by the first things that spring to mind (usually a good place to start)

Support- of people around you- friends, family, anyone who likes what you do.

Tenacity- even the “overnight successes” have to be determined that they will get to where they want to be and that they will get there.

Adaptability- many stars have got to where they wanted to be by some very obscure routes and some have even got to a completely different place than they expected. When they get stardom, they have to be prepared for a different life and adapt to that too.

Authority- Not in the sense of being stern, but in the sense of knowing more than most people or appearing to be better than most people at what you do. It’s all about people’s perceptions and you don’t have to be the best at anything to be a star, you have to be better than most people (but not all necessarily).

Resilliance- On the path to being a star you are subject to constant scrutiny by press and fans. You have to be able to rise above the critics and be prepared for you to be in favour one day and then out of favour the next.

  14. Steve Baxter

Ok you guys are far too good, here is my effort

Vision – What do you want in life ?
Purpose – What will it give you and others
Flexibility – Focus on the goal not the path
Resourcefulness – Use your Energy, Knowledge, Skill and that of others
Ecology – Live by your rules

    Or

    Vision
    Action
    Awareness
    Flexibility
    Celebration and Gratitude

  15. Elliott Wald

Wow, there some interesting perspectives on the qualities of what makes a star… really love Martin’s as it spells out the word PEACE.
I like Andrew’s ‘Direction’ to continue the ‘ion’ theme….
And Lee’s – Adaptability, because becoming a start requires constant changes ‘nothing is permanent except change’ would be great to find one like adaptability that can run with the ‘ion’ theme.
Of course Step T – Action is equally important ‘nothing precedes Action’

So much to thin about as still find myself in this philosophical mood today, looking forward to seeing some others and I don’t envy Adam choosing the best addition…

Adam’s smart idea of arranging them to spell STTAR… like that if I re-arranged the four I have they could spell PAID whatever that price maybe to become a star… PAID your dues by following the points that lead to becoming a STAR.. Will continue to watch closely

    hello..

the fifth word i came out for your friend is .. yen

Yen according to dictionary.com stands for the monetary unit for Japan but also for desire and craving.

i’ve been thinking all morning about this.. (instead of doing any work..)

i came out with plenty of qualities stars, which worked well, in their own environment, but disliked most of them for a reason or the other. Then i too went philosophical and that was even more confusing. I couldn’t find a solution because there was no solution to fit all.

so i turned this search into an intellectual exercise: i decided to put on my smarty pants too and came up with the word yen and this is why

This is my solution to the puzzle: the 4 initial words were

    Aspiration
    Inspiration
    Dedication
    Perspiration

let me change the order a little

Aspiration (A first letter of the alphabet)
Dedication (D fourth letter of the alphabet)
Inspiration (I nineth letter of the alphabet)
Perspiration (P sixteenth letter of the alphabet)

This is actually a mathematic sequence
    1,4,9,16

These numbers are the squared first 4 numbers:

    1×1, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4

the next is 5×5 which is 25.. letter y in the alphabet..

after researching a little i found the word yen (as desire), and liked it and i thought that was the motivation missing from the other 4.

i know.. i possibly thought about it a bit too much… lol

    see ya on facebook

Peace – without being at peace with the world, and yourself, what can you accomplish?
    Orthogonal – ultimate congruence
Worth – acknowledging the worth of you, and the people around you
Energy – to get stuff done
Ready for action – need no explanation

Notice the first letters spell out POWER

    Visualize
    Emotionalize
    Commit
    Act
    Repeat, with modifications as needed.

Thus a star is born :)

    Have a great weekend!

It’s over? It’s only lunchtime here in the States! :)

I thought this was a great post, and still want to contribute, but on how to remain a star once you become one. And since it’s lunch-time and I’m hungry, my thoughts are apparently veering toward the gustatory…

Self-care – stars who don’t take care of themselves burn out
Passion – stars without passion lose their luster and drive
Identity – Stars without an identity become lost or redundant
Compassion – stars without compassion become narcissists
Elasticity – stars without flexibility are one-hit-wonders

SPICE – it’s the flavor that makes things more interesting, the ingredient that shakes things up, the salt that preserves, the color that makes things special, the secret ingredient that heats things up, and the thing that sets apart your potato salad from everyone else’s. Too much is obnoxious and too little is bland, but in perfect balance, the results are utterly sublime, making everyone wish they had the recipe.

    Mmmmmmm…potato salad…

    ;)

Your friend has lots of inspiration and effort, but no direction to point it.

The fifth point would be intention.

Thanks Mike… I think you can inherently denominalise by simply explaining each point and make it a process… No?
