I was speaking to one of my clients this week who joked to me that I must think he is “a complete psychopath.” I assured him that I did not think anything of the sort, yet it is amazing how many therapy clients believe themselves to be psychopathic without really knowing what they are suggesting about themselves.
(It is funny how many clients seem to worry about what the therapist
thinks of them… It really can get in the way at times… That is a
discussion for another day though.)
In the village where I lived while I was at secondary school, a boy who went to the same school used a samurai sword to dismember and kill a man who used to bully him… He may be considered more of a psychopath! His attack was in the middle of a fired up psychotic episode and many debates were held as to the difference between ‘mad’ and ‘bad.’

Ok, ok… So loads of my professional peers have been expressing glee for a few days because there is a piece of modern research, the findings just published, whereby hypnosis is shown to have a good degree of efficacy in helping people to be non-smokers. That sounds good, doesn’t it?
Now bearing in mind that the recent TV documentary here in the UK and other reports have been disputing this efficacy and offering resistance about hypnosis being useful in helping people stop smoking, I welcome it too.
Get ready for a big BUT….

This is the first time, in the last 5 years of blogging, that I have written in rememberance of someone not involved in hypnosis or personal development… At least, not involved in an orthodox or official manner.
George Carlin passed away early yesterday morning. He was truly a pioneer in observational humour and many of his sketches will live on forever, I am sure of that. He was and is a comedy hero of mine… He was a proper urban philosopher, he stood up for so much and smashed down so much with his comedy… (more…)
How happy was your weekend?
I just had a fabulous weekend… On Friday, my Godparents visited Katie and I at our home, they are also my Uncle and Aunty - we showed them our wedding DVD and when they left, we sat in the evening sunshine relaxing. It was beautiful until quite late and we sat on the decking overlooking our beautiful garden.
On Saturday, we had friends for lunch and more friends for dinner… We ate well, drank my favourite port from new crystal decanters and sat up late putting the world to rights.
Sunday, we bought an Italian design leather sofa and had lunch with Katie’s Mum before having an intimate barbequeue in the late evening sun again and finished off the Belgium biscuit chocolate cake left over from Saturday night… Yummmm. Fabulous stuff…
Why on earth am I writing about this today? Let me explain in scientific terms…. (more…)
