I was really surprised the first time I saw an interview with Lily Allen. When her music first made it big in the States she seemed like another rebellious pop star headed for an inevitable downward spiral into multiple rehab stints, but she quickly developed a reputation for being not just crass, but witty, and willing to really look at things. I'm not surprised that she's being more vocal about hypnosis and quitting smoking for her child's health. It's still cutting-edge enough to be cool, plus it really does fit with her trying to be a good example. I think the world has had enough of the Britney Spears/Amy Winehouse/(insert self-destructive celebrity here) mold, and so it's good PR (and good karma) to make a statement about how you can be both edgy and healthy.
